![]() This year in the Movie Studio Platinum and Suite versions they have added a very cool feature that is highly applicable to today’s video shooting environment. Magix always had some pretty good color correction and grading tools on offer and this was largely due to these features trickling down from their pro editor, Video Pro X. This year they have completed that feature so that you can import 360° footage, edit it and then output to a 360° degree file ready for upload to YouTube or some other service that will display 360° footage correctly. Last year they introduced it as a feature but really it only offered the ability to import 360° footage, choose a section of it from one angle then incorporate it into a regular project which of course could only be rendered to a regular file. Only available for the Platinum and Suite versions this one has finally been taken through to a finished product. What this really means is that an enormous range of free and paid plugins designed for all aspects of editing and effects can be simply imported into the program and used seamlessly. ![]() This is another new feature applied to all versions of the software and allows for the user to add and use open source third party plugins. What I suspect has happened here is that the “pro” stabilization feature from their professional editor, Video Pro X has been integrated into Movie Studio. This is most likely due to the rise of the “action cam” footage their users are dealing with and the subsequent increase in demand for better stabilization. Movie Studio has always had a “pretty good” video stabilization module included within the software but like most of these “in-house” stabilizers there was a limit to just how much you could do with them.įor a while they included certain Third Party stabilizers but just recently have decided to take control back “in-house” of the video stabilization feature. In light of that, Movie Edit Pro is now and into the future just simply referred to as Movie Studio without any version number but then they started adding the years to it all so clearly that’s gone out the window! Onboard Image Stabilization They have completely dropped the concept of re-releasing the software annually under a new version number or as they have in the past, by using the year. Probably the first new feature that needs to be dealt with in any Magix Movie Studio review is how Magix will be developing the software into the future. The software is packed with features aimed at making GoPro or Action Cam style footage easier to handle.Ĭheck out the video below to get a feel for this latest version. The result of all of this is a complete end-to-end video editing software package that is easy to use, stable, feature rich and backed up with a solid online presence.Īlthough Magix Movie Studio can certainly hold its own against its competitors in this class with regards to general editing features, their focus has been on the rapidly expanding action video genre. Since then Magix haven’t really skipped a beat with the ongoing development of Movie Studio and although they have continued to add new features they have maintained a solid record for keeping the program stable and easy to use.įor the last two or three years they have also invested a good deal of time and effort into improving and developing their help systems, tutorial knowledge base and user forums. It was also around this time that I began adding a Magix Movie studio review to my list of personal recommendations for a consumer level video editing software solution. It was at that point that they stopped mindlessly adding new “half-baked” features and embarked on a strategy of making the software usable and stable for the average person. Sometime back around 2011 Magix realized this constant drive towards more and more features without underlying stability was hurting them badly. This resulted in a product which although packed with awesome features, quickly gained a reputation for being unstable. The emphasis was always very heavy on the “latest and greatest” whilst reliability and stability came a distant second. In its early years Movie Studio always offered a superior feature set in comparison to others on offer at this level. Two years ago they combined the two so here we are at Movie Studio 2024.Īny Magix Movie Studio review has to begin with a little background so we can gain a clear picture of how we got here and where we are going! They originally were going to develop the two programs side but eventually that began to make no sense. It was previously named Movie Edit Pro however Magix purchased the Sony range of video editing software a few years back so along with that came Sony Movie Edit Pro. Magix Movie Studio by the European Magix software company is a feature rich video editing software program aimed at the consumer through to semi-pro video editing market.
